Junior players, both boys & girls, can begin to play ice hockey at any age with IHACT offering age divisions from 5 years. Ice hockey is broken up into the following junior age divisions:
- Atom – 5yrs to 11yrs
- PeeWee– 12yrs & 13yrs
- Bantam – 14yrs & 15yrs
- Midget – 16yrs to 18yrs
The junior seasons run from March/April through to September with breaks over school holidays. Each league has its own training session mid-week with IHACT accredited coaches and plays games at least once a week. Our coaches develop player’s skills in skating, puck handling and sportsmanship. Players in our Atoms & Pee Wee divisions also rotate through the different positions on the ice throughout the season ensuring players experience all aspects of the game.
Our junior leagues are mixed and are non-checking until Bantam; in line with IHA guidelines. Non-checking means our players are not able to body check players of the opposing team. From Bantam age onwards female players can choose to join the women’s league.
IHACT offers Come & Try Days at the end and/or beginning of each season followed by an academy program for new players to begin to learn and develop basic skating and puck handling skills. This is usually a 10 week program broken into two Blocks of 5). The program run before the new season starts with all equipment provided.
New players can also contact Phillip Ice Skating Rink for more information on personal or group skating lessons with ACT Figure Skating coaches.
