Our ACT DeFris Team (Bantams) headed off to Newcastle on the 13th July to compete at the National Championships, which was held over 4 days.
The 16-man squad, coached by Chris McPhail & Matt Taylor, played games against NSW, QLD, VIC & WA. Although we were unable to come away with a win, they fought hard against the other teams, never giving up until the final buzzer sounded. The score line not always reflecting how much determination & pride they played with.

Our team was boosted with 3 players from NSW. Lara, Nicolas & Jakob B settled into the team effortlessly. Their sportsmanship, skill & passion for the game made them a pleasure to have on the team. Thank you to IHNSW for releasing players to us, it is greatly appreciated & fantastic for our sporting communities.
For some of the team members, this was their first taste of representative hockey & they acquitted themselves quite well. The two final year PeeWees stepped-up & met the challenge head-on, not backing down when confronted by bigger players & body contact.
We did however sustain an injury; in our final game Axel suffered a greenstick fracture of the tibia. We wish him all the best & a speedy recovery- see you on the ice next season Axel!
Congratulations to Michael Claremont on winning the MVP for ACT, Jakob Doornbos for taking out the Best Goalie of the Tournament & to the ACT Team for bringing home the Fair Play Trophy for least penalty minutes.
Thank you for the support given from IHACT & IHNSW; from all the parents; Monique Lavarone who helped with all the meals & shopping; Christian D who helped with everything; the equipment managers & coaches- It really was a group effort!
The players can hold their heads high on how they conducted themselves both on the ice & off the ice during the tournament. They are such a lovely young lady & bunch of young men that we all should be very proud of!
